WNBA Injury Update: Breanna Stewart Suffers Season-Ending Achilles Tear
Breanna Stewart, a two-time WNBA champion and four-time All-Star, has suffered a season-ending Achilles tear, according to her agent, Lindsay Kagawa Colas.
The injury occurred during Thursday's practice with the Seattle Storm. Stewart was reportedly running a sprint when she went down in pain.
Stewart is one of the most decorated players in WNBA history. She has won two WNBA championships (2018, 2020), four All-Star selections (2016, 2017, 2018, 2021), and two Olympic gold medals (2016, 2020).
The Storm released a statement saying that they are "devastated" by Stewart's injury. "Breanna is a cornerstone of our franchise and one of the best players in the world," the statement read. "We will miss her leadership and her play on the court, but we know that she will come back stronger than ever."
Stewart's injury is a major blow to the Storm, who are currently in third place in the WNBA standings. The Storm are now without their leading scorer and rebounder.
