Mumbai Rains Today: Heavy showers, waterlogging affect city

One person dies, flights canceled as downpour continues

Heavy rains continued to batter Mumbai on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging and disruption of services. One person died in a rain-related incident in Grant Road, while 50 flights were canceled due to the inclement weather.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs. The city has been experiencing heavy rains since Monday, with some areas receiving over 200 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

The rains have led to waterlogging in several parts of the city, including Goregaon, Andheri, Chembur, Mulund, and Airoli. Traffic has been disrupted, and many roads have been closed due to flooding.

The Mumbai government has issued a stay-home advisory for citizens, urging them to avoid unnecessary travel. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deployed teams to pump out water from flooded areas and clear debris.

The IMD has predicted that the heavy rains are likely to continue for the next few days. The city is likely to receive more than 200 mm of rainfall in the next 24 hours.

Here are some tips to stay safe during heavy rains:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel.
  • If you must go out, wear waterproof clothing and footwear.
  • Do not cross flooded areas, even if they seem shallow.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and watch for falling debris.
  • If you see a downed power line, stay away from it and call the police.
  • If you are caught in a flood, try to find higher ground.
  • Do not eat food that has been exposed to floodwater.
